Be prepared, we have a week full of events that are kiss-cam free (👀) .

We sifted through 220+ events happening around Vancouver this week (yes yes, last week there was more, I blame the beautiful weather) and picked only the best of the best so you don't have to.

Here's what made the cut:

📅 Friday

🕐 3:30 PM📍 VPL West Point Grey Branch
Jumbo board games, can't go wrong there. VPL will feature a different giant game at each program, including giant chess every time, or try your hand at the outdoor ping pong table.

🕐 3:30 PM📍 VPL Renfrew Branch
Visit the library and enjoy free, kid-friendly movies.

🎥 Stop Motion Animation 🔬 🆓

🕐 3:30 PM📍 VPL Firehall Branch
Stop motion is so much fun, create your new Shaun the Sheep in this fun event at the library. This session they will be animating with LEGO.

🕐 4:00 PM📍 RPL Brighouse Branch
Another chance to try Scratch, a great bridge into programming that allows kids to create games and learn their way into coding.

🕐 4:00 PM📍 RPL Cambie Branch
This one is a great way to get your kids socializing and doing something that they love (or at least 98.78% of them), anything where Pokemon are involved.

🕐 6:30 PM📍 Queen Elizabeth Theatre
This is a free, no-pressure chance of learning and enjoying one of the most fun rhythms in the world. I am really sorry to disappoint the ones who thought they would have some chips with it, but we're talking about the dance here.

🕐 6:30 PM📍 Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site, Steveston (Richmond)
Live music at a historic cannery. Give your kid a chance to forget Baby Shark with real music. Music that sounds different from Taylor Swift’s. Whoa, lower your guns, this is about exposure to new things.

🕐 7:00 PM📍 Place des Arts, 1120 Brunette Ave, Coquitlam
If you read Robert Munsch to your kid, or as a kid, you know how legendary his work is. His stories come to life on stage in this delightful children's play presented by Place des Arts' Summer Theatre Troupe. This is free but you need to register, open the link!

🕐 9:00 PM📍 Malkin Bowl, Stanley Park (Vancouver)
Outdoor musical theatre at Stanley Park's Malkin Bowl – a beloved Vancouver summer tradition since 1940. This week featuring Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Bring a blanket!

📅 Saturday

🕐 10:00 AM📍 King George Secondary School
Two events in one. Recycle your electronics, or let someone else reuse them. Or just grab some cool stuff that someone is giving away, fun even just for browsing.

🕐 12:00 PM📍 Metropolis at Metrotown
FREE mini planetarium experience inside the mall. Experience the galaxy in this immersive dome planetarium right inside Metropolis at Metrotown. Kids love it; parents who don't love it can sneak in naps, and it's at the mall, do some shopping, why not?

📅 Sunday

🕐 2:00 PM📍 RPL Brighouse Branch
I know Queen's Gambit ended a long time ago, but this is still fun, free, and keeps your kid away from garbage like PJ Masks.

🕐 2:30 PM📍 RPL Brighouse Branch
Teens love board games, but you know what they love more? Board games without adults.

📅 Monday

🕐 2:30 PM📍 nə́c̓aʔmat ct Strathcona Branch

Express yourself in a creative way in this fun judgment-free workshop which combines art, a love of skating and a burst of self-confidence. Participants are welcome to bring their own skateboard to decorate, but those without boards will be provided with all materials (provided boards will not come with trucks or wheels and are recommended for decorative use only).

📚 Teen Bookclub 🆓

🕐 6:00 PM📍 Brighouse

A book club for teens, run by teens. It’s a welcoming place where everyone is encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas about books.

📅 Tuesday

🕐 10:30 AM📍 Tinkering Space: The WorkSafeBC Gallery, Science World
Program a micro:bit finch robot. Essentially, code a remote control to tell your robot how to move. We featured this one before, and it’s worth it!

🕐 8:00 PM📍 Stanley Park (Ceperley Meadows)
Weekly free movie night—great picnic-with-kids vibe. Bring blankets and snacks for a classic Vancouver summer experience watching movies under the stars in beautiful Ceperley Meadows. This week's movie is Ferris Bueller's Day.

📅 Wednesday

🕐 12:00 PM📍 CBC Plaza, 700 Hamilton St
Free lunchtime outdoor concert—easy downtown kid outing or stroller walk add‑on. CBC's weekly outdoor concert series features local and touring musicians in a family-friendly downtown setting.

🦏 Pokémon Party 🆓

🕐 2:00 PM📍 Britannia Branch
Celebrate (AGAIN) your favourite characters with fun crafts and games inspired by Pokémon.

🕐 2:30 PM📍 Collingwood Branch
Turn your creativity into community caring. Meet other kids and have fun creating bookmarks, cards, or other paper crafts for people who are isolated at home or in a care facility.

🕐 3:30 PM📍 West Point Grey Branch
Meet other kids and decorate your bike at the plaza at 10th & Sasamat. Bring your bike (or trike or scooter) and we'll provide the decorations.

📅 Thursday

🖼 Kidzone: Art 🆓

🕐 3:00 PM📍 VPL Dunbar Branch
Meet other kids and share books, crafts, and fun activities at the library. This week we will be making/doing art and crafts.

🕐 6:00 PM📍 VPL Central Library
Expand the library reach so your kids can enjoy books when you're caught unprepared. Learn to access eBooks, audiobooks, and magazines for free from your phone or tablet.

🕐 6:00 PM📍 VPL Central Library
This one is more for the parents. Make a set of pizza felt pieces for songs and stories that will engage a group of young children.

Remember, many of these events are drop-in, you don’t need to register (nor to be a resident of the city in question 👀).

Know a fellow parent who always says, "there's nothing to do"?
Forward them this, save their weekend.

Catch you next week ✌️,

Nat, from Nothing To Do.
